BIOBANK’S SERVICES

Scientists conducting biomedical research can request the Biobank:

• to collect biological samples from patients and related clinical information;
• to receive biological samples for scientific research.

Fees for paid services (Biobank service fees are approved by the director of the NCI).

The supervision of biobanks in Lithuania is carried out by the following institutions:

• The State Accreditation Service for Health Care Activities under the Ministry of Health is responsible for supervision of compliance with the terms and conditions for issuing licenses to Biobanks.
• Before starting any biomedical research with human biological samples and/or clinical information stored at the Biobank, permission to conduct a biomedical research is issued by the Lithuanian Bioethics Committee, the Vilnius Regional Biomedical Research Ethics Committee or the Kaunas Regional Biomedical Research Ethics Committee.
• If the research will be conducted with medicinal products containing human biological samples, the Lithuanian Bioethics Committee issues a certificate of approval, and the State Medicines Control Agency of Lithuania issues a permit to conduct a clinical trial of the medicinal product.
