BIOBANK’S SERVICES

Scientists conducting biomedical research can request the Biobank:

  • to collect biological samples from patients and related clinical information;
  • to receive biological samples for scientific research.

To request any services, contact the head of the Biobank, Daiva Dabkevičienė, Ph.D., (+370 5 219 0900, daiva.dabkeviciene@nvi.lt).

Fees for paid services (Biobank service fees are approved by the director of the NCI).

The supervision of biobanks in Lithuania is carried out by the following institutions:

Practical-clinical activities

SAMPLES STORED AT THE BIOBANK

Currently, tissue (tumor, non-tumor), blood, serum, plasma, buffy coat, nucleic acids (DNA, RNA), urine (whole urine, urine supernatant, urine pellet) and other samples of patients treated at NCI are included in scientific researches. The samples stored at the NCI Biobank are divided into collection according to tumor localization, more information can be found at BBMRI – ERIC Directory portal.

Tumor localizations:

  • larynx;
  • uterus;
  • kidney;
  • breast;
  • lung;
  • prostate;
  • bladder;
  • testis.

METHODOLOGIES USED AT THE BIOBANK:

  • purification of nucleic acids from tumor and healthy tissue, blood, cell cultures, paraffin block sections;
  • DNA quantity and quality assessment;
  • RNA quantity and quality assessment (RIN determination);
  • cell extraction from various tissues, their culturing and freezing;
  • freezing of reproductive tissues;
  • PCR and Real-time PCR;
  • ELISA;
  • detection of mutations;
  • determination of DNA polymorphisms.
Scientific and educational activities
Scientific research is carried out by researchers, doctoral students, and students of other degrees. Coursework theses and final theses are carried at the Biobank.
